Although the American Platinum Eagle bullion coins have featured the same design throughout the entire series, the collector versions of the coin have featured a new reverse design annually since 1998.
These designs have concentrated on a number of different multi year themes. This has included the Vistas of Liberty series, featuring the bald eagle in different landscapes across America. Another popular theme was the Foundations of American Democracy, which featured representations of each of the four branches of government.
The newest design theme features the core concepts of American democracy as found in the Preamble to the United States Constitution. This design series will run from 2009 to 2014.
